This innovative project involves developing and elaborating a method and associated tools to ensure the sustainable management of pipelines on industrial sites and in production environments via an integrating database management module. The industrial site where the demonstration will take place is a brownfield (“Heldenstraat” BVBA Boortmeerbeek), ensuring that a worst case scenario (and associated costs) will be studied which can later then be used as a standard for active, abandoned or to rehabilitate sites. At the acquisition of this site, there were no plans and hardly any information was available, as well as all knowledge of previous employees about the underground pipe network had disappeared. Until today, there is no view on the underground situation and one cannot guarantee that no further pollution will occur by the activities of new tenants.
